Lucy Galliard Chief Executive Expand I joined Sinfonia Viva in January 2022, in a role which combines my commitment to making orchestral music as accessible and relevant as possible, and my love of the orchestral repertoire. I read music at the University of York, and completed an MA in the History of Film Music at the University of Leeds before starting my career at a community arts organisation in Doncaster. In 2005 I began working for Live Music Now, a national charity supporting emerging professional musicians across all genres, and enabling people who were least likely to be able to access high quality live music to have performances in their schools, care settings, day centres and hospitals. In 2012 I became Acting Executive Director of Live Music Now UK, having previously worked within the Yorkshire & Lincolnshire Branch of the charity. In 2014 I became the Director of Learning & Engagement at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra where I was responsible for the running of the Symphonic Choruses, CBSO Youth Orchestra, and all the educational, family and community concerts, creative projects, and partnerships. Marianne Barraclough Deputy Chief Executive: Programme Expand I am Deputy Chief Executive at Sinfonia Viva and before that I worked for a creative arts charity based in London. I have been designing and managing creative education projects for over 15 years and I’m particularly interested in creating opportunities to inspire young and older people alike by working closely and creatively alongside professional artists. During my time at Viva the orchestra has won several awards including the prestigious RPS Music Award for Audiences and Engagement in 2018, the Best Family Event award at the Family Friendly Awards in 2016, a national Arts & Business award for a corporate training partnership with Rolls-Royce plc as well as being shortlisted for many other national awards. In 2016 I became a governor at Tower View Primary School, taking the lead as link for the creative arts and outdoor learning. In 2018 I became Vice Chair of Governors. In 2016 I became a trustee of Tom Dale Company, a creative and innovative contemporary dance company which explores the ways in which dance, electronic music and digital art come together. Matthew Lax Head of Orchestra and Operations Expand I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2003 where I studied music. Whilst there, I concentrated my studies on trumpet performance and played in many of the University's ensembles. I continue to perform in an amateur and semi-professional level in many ensembles in the region when the Sinfonia Viva schedule permits. From 2009 until 2024 I was on the Board of Nottingham-based music charity Music for Everyone, and was also Treasurer for the latter years of this position. Tony Davis | FRAes FInstTT FRSA Chair of Trustees Expand Tony Davis had an early interest in aviation which has led to an airline career spanning more than 30 years. In 2002 he became the founding Managing Director of a low cost airline, Bmibaby and in 2005 he was appointed as President and Chief Executive Office of Tiger Airways, a low cost airline created by Singapore, Australia and South Korea. During his time in Asia, he also served as non-executive director of the Singapore Tourism Board and served on various boards in Singapore, Australia and South Korea. Following his return to the UK in 2012, he became a partner in Irelandia Aviation, a leading airline start-up investment fund with interests in a number of Latin American countries and served as a non-executive director of Glasgow Prestwick Airport. He has had a lifelong interest in music and the arts, having been an enthusiastic schoolboy musician and his partner of more than 20 years being a professional violinist. He is Chairman of 1206 (City of Lichfield) Squadron RAF Air Cadets and a Trustee of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He previously served on the board of New College Nottingham and the Lichfield Festival and has a keen interest in youth, diversity and education issues.

He leads the business and is building the commercial partnership strategy to scale Tokamak Energy, a world leader in two transformative technologies. Based near Oxford, UK, the company has an unrivalled track record designing and operating spherical tokamaks; the optimal route to commercial fusion energy. Fusion is the process that powers the sun and stars and has the potential to transform society here on earth. In addition to fusion, Tokamak Energy is recognised as the leader in High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) magnet design, numerical modelling, and prototyping. Warrick leads a team of over 250 people with experts from the UK and around the world. It combines world-leading scientific, engineering, industrial and commercial capabilities, with the goal of delivering clean, secure and affordable fusion energy in the 2030s.His strategy positions Tokamak Energy as the IP-rich company in the heart of public/private fusion programmes, with powerful commercial partners to give global scale. Robin Wood Board Member | Chair of Artistic Development Group Expand Robin Wood is Sinfonia Viva's longest-serving Trustee. He is CEO of Victoria College of Music and Drama, London, and is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Member of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain, he holds an Honorary Doctor of Law degree. An elected member of Derby City Council between 1979 and 2023 he has held the office of Mayor of the City three times. He is a founding trustee of Disability Direct, and has held a number of public appointments including chairmanships of the Independent Monitoring Boards of two of HM Prisons. Robin lives with his husband, Andy Flint, and, as well as enjoying musical performances, he appreciates real ale.
Helen Geary Board Member | Chair of Fundraising Committee Expand Helen is a certified member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising with over 20 years' experience in development and communications in the arts, heritage and education sectors. She is currently a Partner at More Partnership, working with a range of clients to help them further their fundraising ambitions. She was previously Director of Fundraising at Lichfield Cathedral, and has held roles with Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the National Theatre and the Courtauld Institute of Art among others. She is also a Trustee of Classics for All and an active mentor for early career arts fundraisers through the Evolve programme.
Margaret Cookhorn Board Member | Chair of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee Expand Margaret Cookhorn has been a Sinfonia Viva Trustee since November 2020. She is Principal Contrabassoon and bassoon with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and has also played with many of the UK’s leading orchestras. She is a tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a Woodwind Coach at the University of Birmingham. She has also been a presenter twice on the BBC Radio 3 programme ‘Inside Music’ and was guest host of ’Sunday Night Scala In The Orchestra’ on Scala Radio.
